Choosing the perfect university for your higher education can be tricky. There are so many things to take into account, such as the location of the university, their reputation, and the courses or programs being offered. Many people prefer going to university in their own country, but, you might decide you want to get out of the US for a few years. In that case, it would be worth looking for great universities in Europe to attend.

It’s great to get out and see the rest of the world, and Europe has such a wonderful history, as well as being home to some of the finest educational establishments in the world. You want to enhance the learning experience and get as much out of university as you possibly can when studying abroad. We know the UK has some excellent universities, such as Oxford and Cambridge, but, there are plenty of other fantastic universities in Europe as well, and we’ve made a list of them.

Swiss Federal Institute of Technology – Zurich

Zurich is one of the best cities in the world, and the Institute of Technology is the ideal place to be for those looking for a course based in the fields of science, technology, and engineering. The university is highly acclaimed and viewed by many as one of the greatest institutes for higher education in Europe. In fact, it has been rated inside the top 10 best universities in the world – making Switzerland the only country besides the US and the UK with a university ranked in the world’s top 10.


University of Copenhagen – Copenhagen

They say the Danes are the happiest people on Earth, and, with universities like this, we can understand why. The University of Copenhagen is among the best unis in Europe, and the second-oldest institute of higher education in Scandinavia (having been founded in 1479). Most of the courses here are taught in Danish so you might want to take lessons before you go. However, there are a few courses that are taught in English and German, and the university is popular with foreign students.


The Karolinska Institute – Stockholm

This medical university in Stockholm is ranked as one of the best in the world and is the perfect place to be if you want top medical training. A second campus has recently been added, making it one of the leading (and largest) medical universities in the world. The Karolinska Institute also accounts for around 40% of all medical research in Sweden, and the Karolinska University Hospital is linked to the university as a great teaching hospital. If you want to study medicine outside of the United States, this is definitely the place you need to be.


Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich – Munich

Germany is definitely one of the top places in Europe to be as a student, particularly as they offer free education to most students, and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich is the perfect place. It is considered one of Europe’s most prestigious universities, and has produced over 36 Nobel Laureates! A rebranding of the university developed many more courses that are taught in English, including subjects such as physics, and psychology.
